HISTORY

From Idaho’s oldest standing building, to the worlds longest hand carved wooden chain, the Silver Valley area is rich in mining history and adventure.

The oldest building in Idaho - the Cataldo Mission  Hiawatha route has been called one of the most breathtaking scenic stretches of railroad in the country. The trail is open daily starting May through September.

The world-famous Route of the Hiawatha follows the old train tracks through eight open tunnels and travels over seven trestles.

The Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes is a spectacular trail one of the 25 top trails in the nation.

Mining & Smelting Museum, Inc. has a historic collection from the Bunker Hill Mining and Smelting Company Pulaski Project (the 1910 fire), Ed Pulaski is best known for the firefighting tool he invented, a cross between an ax and a hoe that bears his name and is still used in firefighting today. This acclaimed mine museum exhibits panning, hydraulics, underground dredging and much more. You can also see the world's largest wood chain at the Sprag Pole. The Oasis Bordello Museum is housed in a former brothel which was still in business as recently as 1988. Go underground with the Sierra Silver Mine Tour.  Walk through the main drift of an actual underground silver mine. Jun 1-Aug 31, 10am-4pm or by appointment, exhibits of historical furnishings, vintage clothing, photographs, newspapers, mining relics, and local school, sports, firemen, and drug store memorabilia.
